Hang Out

"The greatest danger in life is that we become too cautious." (Japanese proverb)

One of today's strongest values is safety. An increasingly extensive system of rules and standards is supposed to guarantee that "nothing can happen to us" in public space. Where and at what risk is it still possible to wander outside, to hang up and hang out? Do our children still go out alone? Safety has become our mantra, but don't we miss the trembling that leads us to do a parachute jump or at least go to the circus?

In her audio-walk performance HANG OUT, performer and acrobat Eliška Brtnická deals with remote and forbidden places in public spaces, where you may have always wanted to climb.

Eliška Brtnická is a performer, choreographer, dramaturg and director. She graduated in non-verbal theatre from the HAMU in Prague, where she completed her PhD in 2018, focusing on contemporary circus. In 2010 she founded the company Cirkus Mlejn, under the name of which she creates her projects. In 2017 she completed a year-long course in circus dramaturgy at the prestigious French circus school CNAC in Châlons-en-Champagne. She has been involved in artistic research in the field of contemporary circus for many years. She is also the dramaturg of the international festival Fun Fatale. Microworlds, a movement and object-based performance for audiences aged 4 and up, draws our attention to the little things that are often hiding in plain sight.
