More than 75 years have passed since the death of the third Czechoslovak president, Dr. Emil Hácha. He died while awaiting trial in the Pankrác Prison hospital, only to be buried in a private ceremony at Vinohrady cemetery in an unmarked grave as a despicable collaborator and traitor to the nation. It was only after the Velvet Revolution that he was at least partially rehabilitated, but the controversy over his personality continues and has flared up again on the anniversary of his death. But can this ever be definitively and fairly decided? And what do these debates say about today and about us?

Theatre 21 is an independent professional scene with a desire to do theatre in its own way: progressive, exciting and entertaining for both us and the audience. Our productions’ themes are drawn mainly from the present: from what surrounds us, makes us angry, or makes us laugh. We are inspired by limits and problems of all kinds. We enjoy adapting Czech and world literature for the stage and interpreting classic dramatic texts in our own way. We also like to look beyond the world of literature, to film, music, the internet or our own experiences for inspiration for our productions and projects. We're drawn to powerful stories and contemporary themes. Our audience is young, regardless of age, and so are our actors. We are a place for distinctive directors and creative, authorial approaches. Our stage poetics are close to theatrical shorthand with brisk storytelling and the imaginative use of anti-illusive devices. We enjoy taking risks and exploring!
