The newly composed Neo-Baroque opera L'Arianna, based on the preserved lament of Ariadne C. Monteverdi. The free reconstruction, performed by renowned composers Tomáš Hanzlík and Vít Zouhar in the style of neo-baroque minimalism, gave rise to a new shape that surrounds and illuminates the rarely preserved musical fragment with new visually musical relationships. The opera is reconstructed on the basis of contemporary sources scattered throughout the archives of Europe. The world premiere took place in May 2018 in Lipník nad Bečvou. The project is attended by 2 professional singers nominated for the Thalia Award, Kristýna Vylíčilová for 2015 and Dora Rubart-Pavlíková for 2018.
About the company
Since his first public appearance in 1995, Ensemble Damian has focused almost exclusively on authentic interpretation of Baroque and contemporary music. In the first area, he draws on a rich collection of Czech and Moravian archives; The Ensemble Damian has a moving number of members based on the songs being played. In the largest cast he reaches the size of a chamber orchestra and chamber choir. His vocalists are characterized by the use of a straight voice with a natural color unloaded by vibratory and other opera habits. He uses copies of period instruments to interpret Baroque music. The ensemble is also trying to abandon the classical concert presentation scheme and design its programs into thematically interconnected areas. He focuses mainly on performing in Baroque and contemporary operas. The goal is not a historical reconstruction, but a lively and contemporary shape that is well understood by a wide range of viewers. In many projects, the ensemble combines historical, modern and non-traditional instruments.
