The Journey of Good Hans Böhm through Europe

“How am I supposed to know the difference between good and evil if I trust my educators?”

An everyman from the small village of Holýšov in western Bohemia experiences war-torn Central Europe. Even after the war ends, his situation only gets more complicated.

Despite all efforts to find a common language, extremist groups are still present in every country and are bent on pointing out the differences. Our Hans Böhm, on the other hand, is a symbol of connection. Born in a small West Bohemian town to a Czech-German-Belgian family, he was able to survive a dangerous, unpredictable journey through wartime Europe thanks to his language skills and willingness. While still very young and immature, he had to confront dangerous ideological influences and was separated from a loving family, risking death. His youth allows adolescent audiences to better identify with him and perceive him as a sympathetic character. He makes mistakes, but thanks to the multicultural environment from which he came, he sees people from different cultural backgrounds as friends.

Inspired by a true story.

About the company

ALFA Theatre began to produce puppet theatre in 1966 and continues to focus on productions for children and teenagers to this day. One dramaturgical line is based on the tradition of Czech folk puppeteers and develops their legacy in the context of contemporary puppet theatre, while another line is represented by alternative puppetry or auteur theatre. As an example of masterful work with puppets, ALFA is a popular guest at many Czech and foreign festivals. Since 1967, ALFA Theatre has organised the festival Skupa’s Pilsen.
