Since its premiere in 1987 with the Stuttgart Ballet, Márcia Haydée’s The Sleeping Beauty has been deeply rooted in the ballet world. It has been performed in Chile, Belgium, Australia, South Korea, Sweden, and Canada and the recently refurbished State Opera in Prague will host the balletic parable of bringing beauty back to life, and the eternal struggle between Good and Evil.
It is a great honor for the National Theatre that Márcia Haydée arrived in Prague to stage the ballet with the Czech National Ballet in person. Her visit has been an extraordinary cultural event, as well as a remarkable example of tenacity and artistic zeal despite the difficulties of the covid times.
The fairy-tale story inspired by Charles Perrault’s narrative about a sleeping kingdom has become hot news – the premiere of the ballet in the State opera has been postponed for a year already.
The ballet will be staged online with the recording of Santiago de Chile Philharmonic Orchestra, to whom we would like to express our gratitude for the helpfulness and cooperativeness these days.
The Czech premiere of The Sleeping Beauty will be presented exclusively on the Czech National Ballet Youtube Channel. The recording of the performance of the classical narrative ballet in the State Opera will be available from Thursday 29 April 2021 at 7 pm, the recording of the choreography will be online until 5 May 2021. This will be the Czech National Ballet’s contribution to the celebration marking International Dance Day 2021
