Tomáš Vůjtek has written more than ten plays. After his amateur beginnings in Ostravská pohoda company, he was dramaturgically associated with the Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava (the author of lyrics for the productions of Daddy, Poor Daddy, The Joke, Satire and a Deeper Meaning, Singing about the Water Nymph, The Forgetful), he commenced intense cooperation with the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre as the author of many song lyrics (plays Cinderella, Dalskabáty, the Sinful Village or a Forgotten Devil, Light Cavalry, and others), he participated dramaturgically in operettas Beautiful Helena, The Cousin from Nowhere, The Opera Ball). His plays (Brenpartija, The Hearing, Pity!, Reconciliation, and others) have been staged in the Silesian Theatre in Opava, Těšín Theatre in Český Těšín, J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, or the Aréna Chamber Stage in Moravská Ostrava; productions for children (Troubles in Italy or Kasper Among the Pirates, Tall, Wide and Sharp-Eye or But I Wouldn’t After All...) were staged by Oblázek Theatre, Jiří Ryba Theatre Company or Puppet Theatre Ostrava. Some of Vůjtek’s plays have been presented by Czech Radio (The Christmas Play or Of the Famed Birth, Perversity). Apart from theatre, Tomáš Vůjtek is engaged in translations of plays and poetry from Russian (Talents and Admirers, the book The One Who Walked Out of the House and None of You Knows Kholin) and writing lyrics (Benedikta, Blondie Love, Sodoma Gomora, Mňága a Žďorp bands).

Tomáš Vůjtek graduated from the Faculty of Education at University of Ostrava (Czech and History), since 1991 he has been working at the Janáček Conservatory, where he teaches cultural history and Czech/world literature. Since 2007, he has been the dramaturg of the Aréna Chamber Stage in Moravian Ostrava, where he had worked back in 2005 and 2006.

Tomáš Vůjtek is the laureate of the Alfréd Radok Award (2010, With and Without Hope; 2013, The Hearing), the play mentioned first also received the Star on the Willow Award (2012).
